What is Ivermectin 40mg Used For?
This high-strength dose may be prescribed in special cases such as:
- Severe scabies (especially crusted scabies)
- Strongyloidiasis (intestinal parasite)
- Onchocerciasis (river blindness)
- Lymphatic filariasis
- Head lice (if resistant to topical treatment)
- Off-label use in viral infections (e.g., COVID-19) – only under professional guidance
How It Works
Ivermectin interferes with the parasite’s nervous system, causing paralysis and death. It allows the body to eliminate the infection effectively.
Dosage Guidelines
- The standard Ivermectin dose is 200 micrograms per kg of body weight.
- A 40mg tablet may be appropriate for individuals over 100–120 kg or for multiple-dose regimens (e.g., crusted scabies).
- Usually taken once and sometimes repeated after 7–14 days depending on condition.
Must be prescribed by a doctor. High doses increase the risk of side effects.
How to Take
- Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food)
